Backyard Beekeeping

So you want to be a Beekeeper?!

Let me help! It can be intimidating to open a hive and the boxes can get heavy. Whether you want just an introduction, as-needed assistance, or a full monthly mentorship complete with honey harvesting is up to you. I can come to your apiary (home) and advise on:

  • Where to locate your hive
  • Which tools you need and how to use them
  • Installing new packages of bees
  • Swarm captures
  • Pest management & Problem Solving
  • Honey Harvests
  • Routine Hive Inspections
  • Requeening
  • Making nucs or splits

Contact me and let me help as little or as much as you need. I just want to enable you to be the best beekeeper you can bee.

Purchase Bees

We collect swarms starting in March each year and pass them on to beekeepers through the BeeShare list on Sonoma County Beekeepers Association (SCBA) or if you contact us here. We also have hives that we have taken care of and are willing to pass on to new beekeepers. We can deliver and help you start working with the bees. Contact us for more information and prices.

    Paraguay, 2000

My introduction to beekeeping was catching a swarm with my Dad when I was 13.  When I joined Peace Corps Paraguay’s Beekeeping program, our training completed with a bee beard.  There’s a queen in a cage strapped to my chin. The rest of the hive crawled from a piece of plywood to my face. Hands are keeping bees from taking a tour of my eyeballs.
